Strategic Architectural Design:

Passive House Midwest is a branch of Mark A. Miller Architects/Builders Inc.  We have a track record of designing energy efficient new single family homes which have not only met Energy Star Ratings but have exceeded them by 25%.  We can now offer our same sensitive architectural design services with the new added benefit of designing your project to meet the ultra energy efficiency standards of Passive House Certification.  We value designing space that rejuvenates one’s spirit, as well as offering design technique in line with Susan Susanka’s book(s) “The Not So Big House Book” if dictated by a particular project (perfect for Passive House design).  You can learn of our design work by clicking here.  We are happy to work on your project anywhere in North America.

Construction Management:

Many of our clients are very pleased with our design services and appreciate how easy it is to work with us.  That is why they retain us to build their project after we have designed it.  With our understanding of the care and attention to detail required to produce a high performing home, we can be an asset to running your construction project, overseeing completion of each important step in the process, to achieve your energy efficiency goals.

Passive House Consultant:

If you already have a relationship with an architect or builder, we can offer services as a consultant of the Passive House Building Technique.  We can model your architect’s design in the PHPP software and analyze the performance of the intended design; offer opinions on how to tweak the building elements and systems to achieve high energy efficiency goals and offer value engineering suggestions.  The modeling also allows us to provide you visible proof of the cost effectiveness of various energy efficiency upgrades you may be contemplating.  Below are some of the energy efficiency systems we have experience with:

  1. Panelized Building Technique

  2. Active Solar Energy Systems

  3. Passive Solar Techniques

  4. Super Insulation Techniques

  5. Geo-Thermal HVAC

  6. Water Conservation
